Overview

The Humanities/General Education division at AUM seeks a resilient, innovative Professor of English Composition with a terminal degree and native-level English proficiency, preferably from a country where English is the primary language of instruction (subject to compliance with Maltese and EU anti-discrimination laws). The General Education program emphasizes rhetoric, literature, cultural studies, and developing critical reading, writing, and thinking skills through varied teaching methods.

The successful candidate will teach composition courses, support general education requirements, maintain a research profile in composition or rhetoric, and contribute to university service. Salary is competitive and negotiable.

Qualifications

● Ph.D. (terminal degree) in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field (completed by start date).

● Strong research background with peer-reviewed publications in composition, rhetoric, or related areas.

● Proven teaching experience in composition at the undergraduate level.

● Native-level proficiency in English, preferably from a country where English is the primary language of instruction (subject to legal compliance).

● Knowledge of best practices in writing instruction and assessment.

● Resilience and ability to think outside the box in teaching, research, and service.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience teaching multilingual learners or developmental students.

● Familiarity with digital writing tools or online/hybrid delivery.

● Background in literature, creative writing, or writing program administration.

Responsibilities

● Teaching: Design and deliver composition courses, using innovative pedagogies.

● Research: Conduct and publish research in peer-reviewed venues.

● Service: Contribute to curriculum development, departmental committees, and institutional initiatives.

● Provide timely feedback and maintain office hours.

● Demonstrate adaptability and creative problem-solving.
