Director of Accreditation & Quality Assurance shall have the following duties and responsibilities:
1. To provide integrated strategic leadership for accreditation and quality assurance, leading designated staff and activities relating to academic standards, and providing guidance to senior managers and the academic community to ensure that the University’s reputation is safeguarded and that it remains compliant with accreditation, quality assurance, and regulatory frameworks.
2. To ensure that the University’s quality assurance and accreditation activities collectively enhance institutional reputation, and positively influence how the University is perceived locally, nationally, and internationally in relation to academic standards and the student experience.
3. To fulfil a senior leadership role involving regular engagement with senior staff across the University, exercising influence, negotiation, and professional judgement, and providing advice and direction on matters relating to quality assurance operations and accreditation compliance. This includes direct line management of the Academic Standards and Quality team, including work prioritization, objective setting, performance monitoring, and staff development.
4. To work with senior University managers to ensure that academic governance structures, policies, and procedures effectively support the implementation of the University’s academic strategy, meet obligations to students, and ensure compliance with external accreditation, quality assurance, regulatory, and legal requirements.
5. To lead and manage the Academic Standards and Quality team to ensure that quality assurance processes are effective, consistent, and evidence-based, and that the team is appropriately equipped to support accreditation reviews and external audits.
6. To promote a culture of continuous improvement and accreditation readiness, encouraging proactivity, innovation, transparency, collaboration, and flexibility in the management of quality and academic standards across the University.
7. To play a leading role in the development, implementation, and review of the University’s quality management framework and academic regulatory framework, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and the protection of academic standards and award integrity across all modes and locations of delivery.
8. To ensure that institutional policies and procedures support quality assurance, academic enhancement, and accreditation compliance, and are reviewed regularly to remain fit for purpose.
9. To provide guidance to staff and students on academic regulations, quality assurance procedures, and accreditation-related requirements, where appropriate.
10. To ensure that integrated quality assurance processes are implemented consistently across the University and adhered to by all Faculties and departments, supporting both internal quality enhancement and external accreditation expectations.
11. To ensure that the University’s cross-cutting themes of partnership, equality and diversity, and sustainability are embedded within quality assurance and accreditation activities.
12. To ensure that communication systems and practices support effective quality management, accreditation compliance, and institutional governance, and promote constructive engagement with staff and students.
13. To play a lead role in the initiation, coordination, and delivery of major institutional projects, reviews, and evaluations, including those undertaken for quality enhancement and accreditation purposes.
14. To act as the University’s lead representative in maintaining and developing relationships with Quality Assurance Audit bodies, accrediting agencies, and relevant regulatory authorities.
15. To monitor developments in the national and international quality assurance and accreditation landscape, advising senior leadership on implications for institutional compliance and quality enhancement, and proposing appropriate institutional responses.
16. To operate within a framework of effective governance, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements, quality assurance standards, regulatory obligations, legislation, and institutional policies.
17. To ensure the timely and effective completion of annual monitoring and review processes, supporting both continuous quality improvement and accreditation compliance, including:
a) preparation of monitoring reports to identify strengths, risks, and areas for enhancement;
b) promotion of reflective and evidence-based review practices;
c) oversight of student feedback and peer evaluation mechanisms;
d) communication of outcomes of internal and external reviews, audits, and accreditation activities;
e) development, implementation, and monitoring of action plans arising from quality reviews and accreditation processes;
f) provision of clear and accurate reports to senior leadership and governing bodies on quality assurance and accreditation matters.
